Smiling in the rain

When the ice-creamly gorgeous sunshine turned with bank holiday inevitability to rain Katy discovered the delights of sharing an umbrella - which then had to stay up even when the rain had gone! Her happy chatter currently features the syllables meh-meh and ba-ba, refined to a voiceless pa-pa, or elaborated to a very assertive a-BA-va! She has now said her Ca 'word' on another 2 occasions when a feline has come into view but hasn't produced this sound in any other context, so I really think that a) it is a word, and b) the cats are more exciting than her parents. She seems to prefer playing with the cats' toys to those I carefully select from the ELC for her anyway.
Actually, since she started crawling she's less interested in toys than in the fun to be had with gadgets, be they DVD players or rain protection devices.

Pardon my post-natal brain, but it's only just occurred to me that I could post MOVING images of Katy here. This thought struck me only a month after it also occurred to me I could make little videos in the first place using my trusty phone. Sigh ... and I have to start work again in June, how ever will I persuade people I can still think straight? This mini-epic features Katy playing with what used to be a cat toy - formerly property of Tsi-Tsa - who doesn't seem to quite agree with this redistribution of wealth!

Full marks to Katy's new class teacher, who has taught them 2 new things in her first week (Katy used to complain that they only taught her things she already knew). The first was metaphor - which has to be the most important thing, in my book (and who knows, in a few years time it may be the most important thing in my actual book :-)). The other was a 'fact or opinion' game, which we have just been playing in the kitchen. You put up a 'fact' sign on one wall, and an 'opinion' sign on the opposite wall. You then read out a series of statements, and the children have to go and stand in front of the sign which they think is right for the statement. I could be wrong, but this looks suspiciously like they are being taught to think critically for themselves! Just a pity that the spelling needs a bit more work.

A tooth! A tooth! Clearly visible and razor-sharp. Sorry, but photographing a baby's tooth is like trying to bath a cat, so you'll just have to believe me. And just to confound us, after nights of behaving like an unsettled newborn, last night she went straight down and slept 11 hours without so much as a whimper.
