Standing joke

Adults play 'peekaboo' with babies almost automatically, but it's a great joy when they learn to do it back to you! Kate's co-ordination is now such that she delights in lifting a muslin and dropping it suddenly, or hiding behind her bib when bored of eating (felafel is the latest discovery). Yesterday she did a big fart followed by a naughty giggle. She also takes obvious pride in her ability to STAND - for what seems an age - when holding on to something. According to one of my baby books (I've only got 2, honest) that comes under the category of what a baby her age 'may possibly be able to do'.

Pardon my post-natal brain, but it's only just occurred to me that I could post MOVING images of Katy here. This thought struck me only a month after it also occurred to me I could make little videos in the first place using my trusty phone. Sigh ... and I have to start work again in June, how ever will I persuade people I can still think straight? This mini-epic features Katy playing with what used to be a cat toy - formerly property of Tsi-Tsa - who doesn't seem to quite agree with this redistribution of wealth!

Full marks to Katy's new class teacher, who has taught them 2 new things in her first week (Katy used to complain that they only taught her things she already knew). The first was metaphor - which has to be the most important thing, in my book (and who knows, in a few years time it may be the most important thing in my actual book :-)). The other was a 'fact or opinion' game, which we have just been playing in the kitchen. You put up a 'fact' sign on one wall, and an 'opinion' sign on the opposite wall. You then read out a series of statements, and the children have to go and stand in front of the sign which they think is right for the statement. I could be wrong, but this looks suspiciously like they are being taught to think critically for themselves! Just a pity that the spelling needs a bit more work.

A tooth! A tooth! Clearly visible and razor-sharp. Sorry, but photographing a baby's tooth is like trying to bath a cat, so you'll just have to believe me. And just to confound us, after nights of behaving like an unsettled newborn, last night she went straight down and slept 11 hours without so much as a whimper.
